You gotta love when a talented, hardworking and passionate group of people are recognized for their awesomeness. Congratulations to The MacKenzie Blues Band of my hometown on their Maple Blues Award for New Artist/Group of the Year! Well deserved, folks. Well deserved.
Here they are performing “Don’t Let the Devil Get on Your Train” in downtown Owen Sound, Ontario at the city’s annual Hottest Yard Sale Under the Sun event. Trevor MacKenzie’s guitar solo was too hot for the power grid to handle! Vocalist Tara MacKenzie and drummer Mike Weir seamlessly carried out the song, acoustic style. (Shout out to bassist Joel Dawson. Don’t want to leave anyone out.)
Are your blues senses tingling yet? Are you ready for their Hendrix cover of “Little Wing” at Kincardine’s Lighthouse Blues Festival? (Give a heads-up to your socks because they’re about to be knocked off.)
SO GOOD! (And looking sharp!)
This marks their second year in a row as semi-finalists of the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee. More good news: they were recently back in Sun Studio recording songs for their second album, Slam! Bam! If you’re diggin’ what you’ve heard here, check out The MacKenzie Blues Band’s debut CD Back Road Revelation to tide you over until the new album is released and festival season comes back around. If you get a chance to see them live, you won’t want to miss them!
